Techno Ad uses state of the art manufacturing processes to efficiently produce custom shapes that meet all of our customer’s specifications. Techno Ad offers consultation services to our customers advising on the best material for the application. We support our customers through the entire process, from design to prototype to production.
Techno Ad develops molds according to customer specifications from whatever elastomer that is required for drinking water, food, medical, military, and other markets. We can also manufacture flat seals (i.e. 2D) using CNC, water, or laser cutting technologies.
Techno Ad’s custom shapes meet the highest of military specifications, ISO 3302-1 Class M1 and M2 tolerances, as well as ASTM, FDA, NSF61, KTW, WRC, and other standards.
Techno Ad maintains a stock of customer designed seals, and small minimum order quantities (MOQ) can be processed.
Frequently Asked Questions – Custom Shapes
What are “Custom Shapes” in sealing solutions?
Custom shapes refer to non-standard, application-specific seals and components that are designed to precisely fit unique geometries and performance requirements. These are engineered solutions made to integrate seamlessly into your product or system, especially when standard O-rings, gaskets, or extrusions are not sufficient.
What industries typically require custom-shaped seals?
We serve engineers and developers across diverse sectors including waterworks, irrigation, medical/life sciences, aerospace and defense, chemical processing, oil and gas, semiconductor fabrication, and food processing. In these fields, precision sealing under challenging conditions is non-negotiable, and custom shapes often provide the only viable solution.
Why would I need a custom shape instead of a standard sealing solution?
If your system includes complex geometries, dynamic or irregular motion, extreme pressures or temperatures, or strict regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USP Class VI, aerospace standards), a custom seal ensures performance, safety, and longevity. Custom shapes are not luxury—they’re often critical to system integrity.
How does the design process for a custom shape work?
Our engineering team works closely with design and development engineers to ensure optimal material selection and proper tolerance definition. As part of the process, you’ll benefit from the direct support of Techno Ad’s engineering department, including guidance in selecting the right elastomer for your application and defining tolerances according to international rubber standards—typically ISO 3302-1. Later in the process, we’ll review your drawings and 3D models together and suggest design adjustments, where needed, to support a stable, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing process.
What materials are available for custom shapes?
We work with a wide range of elastomers and thermoplastics including FKM, EPDM, NBR, Silicone, FFKM, and engineered blends for specific chemical, thermal, or mechanical resistance. Material selection is driven by your application requirements—whether it’s biocompatibility, extreme temperature resilience, or aggressive media exposure. If required, we also verify that the selected material complies with the relevant regulatory or industry standards specified by the customer.
What are your minimum order quantities (MOQs) and lead times?
MOQ depends on material choice and complexity, but we’re optimized for both prototypes and full-scale production. Lead times vary from days for simple products to several weeks for complex, multi-cavity tooling. We’ll always give you a realistic timeline—no surprises.
Do you provide testing and validation services?
Absolutely. We offer dimensional verification, material certification, and in-house testing for compression set, tensile strength, thermal aging, and more. For regulated industries like medical and aerospace, we support full documentation and traceability.
Are your custom shapes compliant with industry standards?
We design for compliance with ISO, ASTM, FDA, USP, MIL-SPEC, and other applicable standards. If your application has unique compliance requirements, our team ensures every detail is addressed from design through production.
Can you assist with design improvement or cost reduction for existing components?
Yes. Many clients come to us with an existing design that’s either failing or unnecessarily expensive. We optimize for manufacturability, material efficiency, and performance—all without compromising on functionality or quality.
What file formats do you accept for custom shape designs?
We accept most industry-standard CAD formats including STEP, IGES, DXF, etc.
How do I start the process of ordering a custom shape?
It’s simple – reach out with your design, technical specs, or challenge. Along with the documentation and planning details, please include an estimated quantity to help us provide accurate pricing. Based on this information, our engineering team will assess your needs and send a formal quote. Once you approve the quote and confirm the order, we’ll initiate the production process.
