Fluorosilicone (FVMQ)
Description:
Fluorosilicone shares the temperature stability of silicone rubber, and the mechanical and physical properties of VMQ. However, FVMQ offers improved fuel and mineral oil resistance, but poorer hot air resistance than standard VMQ.
FVMQ Common Uses:
FVMQ is found in:
- Aerospace fuel systems
- Static sealing applications
- Automotive fuel systems
FVMQ Properties:
Standard Compound: -60°C (-76°F) to 177°C (350°F)
Special Compound: -60°C (-76°F) to 232°C (450°F)
Hardness: 45 to 80 Shore A
ASTM D1418 Designation: FVMQ
ASTM D2000 Designation: FK
Standard Colors: Blue
Optional Colors:
Production:
Standard FVMQ compounds are peroxide-cured.
Advantages:
FVMQ rubber compounds perform well in fuels, aromatic mineral oils, benzene, toluene, chlorinated and aromatic hydrocarbons, ozone, and weather.
Limitations:
FVMQ rubber compounds are susceptive to brake fluids, ketones, and hydrazine.
